Seven institutions,

Each university brings a distinct legal, economic or regional perspective on the energy transition. Together they cover Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

University of Economics in Katowice

Project lead · Dept. of Energy Transition

Coordinates the partnership and hosts both summer schools. Its Department of Energy Transition brings together lawyers, economists and regional-policy researchers working on the future of a coal region in change.

Katowice sits at the centre of Poland's largest coal basin, which makes the university an unusually direct place to study how a regional economy is rebuilt. That proximity runs through the whole programme: cases, field visits and partners come from the region itself.

One of Europe's oldest universities, contributing comparative work on European energy policy and the social dimensions of transition.

Its Department of Political and Social Sciences looks at how European rules land in national systems, and how citizens and local authorities respond. That perspective anchors the European half of the comparative study.

Abu Dhabi University

College of Law

Brings the perspective of a state building renewable capacity from a hydrocarbon base, with expertise in energy justice and international energy law.

The College of Law works where energy law, investment and climate commitments meet, in a country that is both a major exporter and an early investor in solar. It is the programme's window onto transition outside Europe and Latin America.

CISGER & School of Law

Its Centre for Regulation and Consumer Affairs contributes research on electricity market regulation and on how reform reaches households.

Chile has moved faster than most countries from coal to solar and wind, which makes it a live case study rather than a projection. CISGER's work on consumers keeps the question of who pays for the transition in view.

Chile's leading public university contributes the REGCOM group's work on competition and regulation in network industries, including electricity and gas.

REGCOM studies how regulated markets behave when the technology underneath them changes. Its work connects the legal questions of the programme to the economics of grids, tariffs and market design.

Mining & Energy Law

A reference point for mining and energy law in Latin America, contributing to the comparative study and to teaching on resource governance.

Colombia is deciding what to do with its coal and oil revenues while facing pressure to decarbonise. Externado's department follows that debate closely and brings it into the programme's teaching materials.

Works on the Caribbean coast, where transition meets coastal vulnerability, informal economies and questions of a just distribution of its costs.

Cartagena's setting raises questions the other partners meet less directly: what a just transition means where climate risk is immediate and much of the economy is informal. That contrast is deliberate in the consortium's design.
